A Taste of West Cork

A Legacy of Culinary Excellence and Local Flavour

Dining at Fernhill is rooted in a family tradition that goes back generations and one of the best places to eat in Clonakilty. When our great-grandfather Michael J. O’Neill purchased the Georgian manor house in the 1940s, he brought with him a deep respect for quality ingredients, shaped by his work as both a farmer and a butcher.
Today, that same passion continues through the O’Neill family. With over 40 years of culinary experience in the kitchen and decades of hospitality expertise in service, our team is dedicated to creating memorable dining experiences for every guest.

Where possible, our ingredients are locally sourced from the rich food landscape of West Cork — from fresh seafood and pasture-raised meats to exceptional artisan producers. Herbs, vegetables and fruit are grown in our gardens and orchards, while seasonal ingredients such as wild garlic are foraged and used in our breads and sauces. At Fernhill, every dish reflects our commitment to sustainability, seasonality and the belief that great food begins with great ingredients – a tradition proudly carried on by four generations of the O’Neill family.

Fernhill Garden Gin, Crafted in West Cork

To celebrate 75 years of the O’Neill family at Fernhill House, we created Fernhill Garden Gin, a small batch gin inspired by our gardens and the natural flavours of West Cork.
Made with botanicals foraged from the surrounding countryside and flowers from our own gardens, it has delicate floral notes with hints of lavender and citrus. Perfect for cocktails, desserts, or simply enjoying at the Fernhill bar, our gin embodies the same care and quality that has defined Fernhill for generations.
The bottle design reflects Fernhill’s heritage as a historic Georgian country house, with vintage inspired detailing and gold touches influenced by William Morris.
